Lentil & Ham Soup | 6 L's to Managing Your Energy | Mastering Your Emotions in 90 Seconds & Saving Yourself From Regret w/ Jay Shetty
When you have leftover ham and don’t know what to do with it, enter Google search. Surprisingly, I got a lot of good ideas, but this one seemed like the easiest out of what I was finding, and it’s a crockpot meal! It’s getting cooler out which means the crockpot gets more use for soups and large meals.
If you have read some of my past newsletters that talked about nourishing hormones through food, you may recall that lentils made the estrogen nourishing food list. However, many don’t know what to do with lentils! I was one of those. The best I’ve done so far is cook some lentils and mix them in a salad, but this lentil and ham soup is a keeper!
It’s a fairly simple recipe and I did add some quinoa to it to give it a more hearty feel. It made about 4 servings for myself, but double the recipe and you have a great meal option for sharing with family or splitting and freezing half to eat at a later time.

The 6 L’s for Managing Energy (Created by Jay Shetty)
If you are struggling with having enough energy to get through the day, sometimes our diet and sleep quality can play a role, but from the mental side of things, how many of the 6 L’s for managing energy do you naturally do on a day to day basis? Read on and see what you can try to give yourself an energy boost every day!
Do something you LIKE every day
You may not be able to change your job or chores that perhaps you don’t enjoy doing. Instead, focus on adding in something that you do enjoy every day to help balance out your energy. Playing a sport, musical instrument, taking a walk, spending time in nature, connecting with a friend or loved one, anything you genuinely feel passionate about. This brings out more positivity because you now have one experience every day that YOU like and YOU enjoy.
LEARN something new every day
This can be learning a new fact or stat, perhaps a new word. This helps boost our confidence, gives you something to talk about, it can give you something valuable to share in a conversation. Perhaps you learn that when you focus on kindness throughout the day, you feel happier by the end of the day instead of drained. Pick up a book and read one page a day, you are most likely going to learn something from that experience. Perhaps listening to a podcast!
Monitoring your energy LEVEL every day
Our energy level is our battery. We always seem to let our phone battery run low until we finally plug it in to charge. Our bodies are the same. When your battery is running low — allow yourself to rest. Ask yourself throughout the day, “Where am I today? Am I at 50%, 20%, or perhaps 5%?” Once you decide that answer, evaluate what you need to charge your battery. Sometimes stepping away from the computer and going for a walk is all you need for an energy boost. Perhaps you need to take a quick power nap. Drink a glass of water. Moving the body is a great way to get an energy boost, simply busting out some pushups or squats for 30 seconds is enough to perk you back up! We generally keep our phones charged throughout the day, why shouldn’t we also do that for our minds and bodies?
Talking to someone that you LOVE every day (or once a week)
Once a week, have dinner with someone that you love. Find the people in your life that give you love and energy. We can easily be surrounded by people that are toxic, whether in the workplace or at home, so spending time with those you love, even once a week can have tremendous effects on mental energy.
LEAVE places and people that don’t fuel you
If you spend time in places where you try to fit in, or act like you enjoy being where you are, THAT drains your energy. Changing your work situation may not be possible, so focus on your social setting. Put yourself in environments that fuel you, not drain you.
LONE time. Spending time with yourself
Whether it’s meditation, relaxing, going for a walk, or receiving a massage can be some ways to dedicate for some lone time. When we are constantly surrounded by people, we are in a state of giving out our energy, but at some point, your energy gets depleted and you need to take some time for yourself.
Pick one of these to practice every day of the week or at least once a week. This practice will help boost your energy and give you life, because you have something that you are passionate about, something to look forward to each day. You can boost your confidence and avoid running low on energy when you know how to monitor where your levels are throughout the day. When you speak to someone that you love, that helps boost you with that sense of love, and leaving places or people that don’t boost you can help support the monitoring aspect. Finally, that lone time gives you that self preservation so that you can be at your best, not only for yourself, but for others as well.
Which one will you focus on for this week?
